Banking with your personal assistant will be the future, whether you like it or not

Image: ambar del moral/mashable It appears that asking your phone assistant for your bank account will soon be a reality. New Apple MacBook doesn’t mess with a good thing

The new MacBook looks just like the old MacBook. Image: Lance Ulanoff/Mashable When everyone is demanding excitement and change, it takes discipline to not mess with a good thing. That’s why I applaud Apple‘s decision not to unduly alter the 12-inch, ultra-thin (0.14-inch thick), 2-pound MacBook. The latest update to the laptop has the specs I want in an ultraportable Mac, with almost day-long battery life. Any major design change would run the risk of altering that balance, and the aesthetic. SEE ALSO: The 1 thing that may kill...

How Google could fire up its smart home play

When it was unveiled at last years I/O, Home felt like little more than Googles attempt to cash in on the Echos success. And the intervening year hasnt done a lot to dispel that notion. The company announced a handful of additions to Home and Assistant at this years event to try to pull even with Amazons lead, but the whole Google Home offering still feels ambling and aimless. That Google thought it had a slam dunk with Assistant on the mobile side hasnt helped much, either. Since launching on the Pixel back in October, the voice helper still...

The difference between smartphone gimmick and game changer

Its hard to find a legitimately bad flagship phone these days. Sure, one peeks its head out from time to time, but on a whole most phones are pretty good. The screens, the cameras, the internals. There are always a few bits that could use improving (see: battery and durability), but the gulf between good and bad isnt any near where it once was. And for the past several generations, most flagship devices even more or less look the same. Sure, the fingerprint reader/home button gets moved around here or there, but most casual observers probably...

Feast your eyes on this 600-DPI e-paper screen

I have to say, I really like e-paper. And its come a long way since the crude early Kindles nowadays you have e-readers that are as high-resolution as the best phones and iPads. And theyre set to get even better if E Inks latest screens make it into a few products, as I hope they do. This year theres no doubt a lot of talk around the water cooler about OLED, but E Ink isnt letting that get to them. The company is...
